In my home, I grew up in a big family of six children. In this big family, I have valued the advice from my brothers and sisters for feedback on growing into the path of adulthood. As I come home from school, I always ask myself if I have managed to have a productive day. I am an overachiever because I prioritize the effort of achieving graduation and want to set a legacy for myself in and out of school. In school, I fit as many tasks as I can to have a balanced social and work life.
My schedule is set up with three classes on odd days and two classes on even days. After those classes are finished, I attend conditioning with the girl’s soccer team. I am co-captain for the Varsity team under Coach Mohammad. I am glad I have progressed in soccer and enjoy being on the team. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the team and be a leader for a group of talented young ladies. My coach has always challenged me and encouraged me to be the captain since junior year. I learned from the previous captains that it takes dedication and kindness to connect with a large group. As the coach announced to the team I would be captain this year, I received messages that I would do a great job as captain. To be captain of the girls soccer team is a real privilege and honor because I have never been a captain of anything before and it is all very new and I want to make sure I do a good job.
Right after girls’ soccer, I go to basketball practice. In the past, our team has had many talented players, but year we had a small team where I have established great memories with the girls. As I would come to the practices after soccer, I noticed that our team was suffering and we were in need of more ladies to have enough for practices and a roster. I knew coming to practice was essential even with being the captain of the soccer team, and so I decided to attend basketball practices more often than soccer practices to help my teammates who were all new to basketball. I have played basketball for three years and enjoyed the sport since my freshman year. The experience of basketball coming to an end was worth the time commitment while working a part-time job, keeping up with my grades, and attending college visits. I fulfilled my participation with endless of memories. I inspired my team when they were afraid of losing hope in winning. I ended my basketball season and now look forward to the start of soccer season to drive my team to success.
As I prepare to leave for college, I am qualified to contribute the same motivation to accomplish the impossible for others in my community. I will push for a better opportunity for communities in need of a voice to fight for injustice. A leader is not always rich with wealth and popularity; a leader is one who guides others to work on their goals in what they wish to accomplish. I believe I am that leader.
