Over the years which I had attended F.L Schlagle High school, I have noticed many different patterns of my peers. From seeing many other students skipping class and getting into fights with reach other with no regard for what consequences that will be faced. To students taking drugs and overdosing on which. There was an overdose last week where a pill was laced with fentanlty. Fentanyl is a pretty fatal drug which takes thousands of lives each and every year. Even with this being said, F.L Schlagle has students with great potential with only a few bad apples spread in the basket.
With my talk about F.L Schlagle in the beginning, I had specifically mentioned this school for a reason. That reason being is that I have been to four different high schools in the state of Kansas throughout my high school career. Out of all of the schools I found that F.L Schlagle struggles the most with this issue. That issue being guidance. The students in F.L Schlagle do not have any role models to look up to. This leads to horrid things such as fights and students consuming drugs on and off of school premises.
However even though I abstain from doing such behavior, it has been a challenge to get others to do so as well. Last year I was in a program called Take Down Tobacco (TDT) which I put as much effort into it as possible. I wanted to actually make a change for the better in the school by seeing less individuals vaping. However even with taking on this leadership role. There has not been as much change as I hoped for. I believe the main reason this is because is It has to be done at a government level for anything to happen. However I still did attempt to tackle a problem much bigger than myself.
I demonstrate what a model student is not only to the teachers but to my peers as well. I do this by staying out of trouble, going to class on time, and not skipping classes nor getting into fights in the hallways. I know it sounds simple, but some individuals cannot seem to do just that. Many people do not realize the importance of not only going to school but going to class as well, and not getting into trouble. It indirectly has an effect on all of us who attend the school. In this way I have demonstrated the leadership role modeling a example of a good student to my peers in hopes they would aspire to become one.
In my community, there is a food distribution program which is called harvesters. We (a group of people) meet up to help disperse food to 40-80 vehicles. It can be back breaking work at times when the sun is beating down upon you, or the cold weather is is freezing your bones. However through thick and thin, I will always stand by to help when needed.
In regards to the peer situation, I will always remain a model student in and out of campus or classroom. I would like to think that I am making a difference but I will never really now. However, I will know that I will be making a difference by volunteering my time for the community I reside in which I will keep on doing for as long as I possibly can.
I would like to thank you for taking time out of your day and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
