Moving to the United States was not an easy journey for my family and me. I had to join a new society which meant changing my cultural life and behavior and learning a new language. I came to America in 2018 not knowing or speaking any English. My immigrant parent, my Congolese parent, escaped the first war, and my family and I lived as refugees in Tanzania’s Nayrugusu camp. My older brother and I will be the first to go to university. When I first came to the United States, I had to balance a new language, academics, and sports, so I am a hard worker, I continue my studies by going to college, and having this scholarship money will allow me to have a job that is not minimum wage and open up opportunities to develop myself in my career such as setting a good example for my younger siblings who are still in kindergarten or middle school and it will also allow. take good care of my parents in the future and move to a safe environment. My parents did not receive higher education and I” ‘m the first female in my family to continue my education and plan to go to college, i was amazed at the golden opportunities this country offers its students. I felt lucky. I soon found out that I could get financial aid to pay for my studies and receive a grant. My goal right now is to finish high and then go to the Missouri National Guard to figure it what I would most like or be interested in studying when I’m in college.
