Participation in school activities has helped me become a better citizen. Getting involved in clubs, sports teams, and other extracurricular activities has taught me valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership, mental toughness, and time management. Some activities that I’m involved in are wrestling, track, cross country, 20/20 Leadership, senior board, EY CMAP, and college ambassadors. Participating in school activities has allowed me to develop a sense of responsibility and commitment. I was able to encourage more people to take college classes and get their associates.
Being able to be involved in these activities required me to show up to practices, meetings, and events on time and consistently. As someone who in the past would follow the wrong crowd, I am thankful for being a part of after-school activities as they helped keep me on track. I noticed that the more I got involved with after-school activities the more I wanted to be around people with similar goals and interests.
I have had the opportunity to interact with classmates from different backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs, which has broadened my understanding of the world around me. This has helped me to become a more empathetic and open-minded individual, capable of appreciating and respecting the diversity of opinions and ideas within my community. I learned how to be a better role model and leader with the help of every person in school activities. Being captain of the wrestling team helped me learn how to lead and teach better. It also helped with me being patient and understanding. I learned how to be more open-minded and not quick to judge.
Overall, being able to participate in school activities has played a crucial role in shaping me into a better citizen and leader. It has equipped me with the skills, values, and mindset necessary to actively engage in and contribute to my community, both now and in the future. I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences that school activities have provided me, and I will continue to apply the lessons I have learned to make a positive impact on the world and those around me.
