Senior Leadership Scholarship Essay 15
Leadership is a quality that I strive to exemplify in everyday life. Leadership can be something as small as taking accountability for your actions and can be as important as helping those in need, it comes in many different forms and is a vital quality to be successful in life. I believe it is even more vital to show this quality in my school and community setting because that’s where it can have the most impact. I demonstrate this trait through volunteering in different organizations, leading student groups, and being a service member to my communities.
Our school has numerous organizations in which I am not only a member, but also take leadership roles in. One of those organizations is the National Honor Society. In this organization, our members do various activities, such as fundraising for school needs, organizing events, and community service events such as Harvesters. I normally am one of the members who organizes the fundraising events. It takes a tremendous amount of patience, empathy, and leadership to manage that many people and make sure the event runs smoothly. Through this event, we contribute to our school community in need whether that is through getting new uniforms for our athletic teams, prom decorations, or even sponsoring students in tough situations.
Another organization that I am proud to be a part of and hold a leadership role in is our student council. Our student council is similar to the NHS in that we organize community events, but we also handle a lot of decision-making on school topics and issues. For example, we collaborate with our administration on school improvements, budgeting, and community outreach. These are all important topics in which we have to vote and decide between helping one group or another, deciding on how we should spend our budget to best help our school, and where our time spent would be most beneficial for our fellow students. This may be my toughest leadership role as I typically am in a position where I have to make a decision between two equally important decisions and sometimes have to be on opposite ends of discussions from my friends and fellow classmates. In the end, I believe these tough decisions and conversations have made me a better and more effective leader.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I try to be a leader in my communities as much as possible. One of the communities in which I demonstrate leadership is at my local mosque. I am Muslim and my faith is extremely important to me, which is what led me to be a volunteer at my local mosque. In this role, I typically hold donation events in which we raise funds for our own community in need as well as other Muslim communities around the world. I mentor younger students, especially the younger girls who were in adjacent positions to the ones I was in when I was their age. This leadership role is one I take personally and is one that drives me to be a leader in my foreseeable future as well. If the younger generation is looking to me as a role model, it is imperative for me to be an ideal leader not only for myself but more importantly for them.
