Reflecting on my participation in the 2020 Leadership program, I can confidently say I have grown tremendously as a leader both mentally and through my actions. This program has challenged me in ways I never expected, from meeting students across Kansas and Missouri to attending career and business expos and deepening my understanding of financial literacy. One of the biggest ways I’ve grown while being in this program is by working with a team, which always pushes me to think critically and creatively. I’m grateful that 2020 Leadership allowed me to develop that skill, and I know I will carry it with me into the future.

One of the most impactful aspects of my journey has been the development of both our mental health room and the research, planning, and creation of our outdoor learning space. These projects were more than just ideas they were solutions to real challenges students face daily. Seeing our hard work come to life and knowing it will benefit students long after I graduate is a feeling I can’t put into words. Collaborating with my senior group and working alongside industry professionals like JE Dunn and HTK Architects was an incredible opportunity. These experiences not only strengthened my leadership abilities but also taught me the value of teamwork, adaptability, and perseverance. I am especially grateful for the guidance of Ms. Caitlyn, Ms. Heather, Ms. Nicole, and others who dedicated their time to ensuring we succeeded not just in our projects but in our personal growth as well. Their mentorship and attentiveness made this experience truly unforgettable.

Beyond the skills I’ve developed, this program has given me a deeper understanding of what it means to be a leader. Leadership isn’t just about having a title or making decisions it’s about inspiring others, solving problems, and creating opportunities for those who come after you. It’s about being willing to learn, adapt, and push yourself beyond your comfort zone. The 2020 Leadership program has allowed me to do just that. I’ve become more confident in my ability to lead, communicate, and collaborate with others, and I know these skills will be invaluable in my future career and personal life.

Looking ahead, I will use what I’ve learned to continue advocating for meaningful change in my community. Leadership is about leaving a legacy creating something that lasts beyond your time and inspires future generations to build upon it. To me, leaving a legacy means putting my name on something that will withstand generations, and continuing to help and uplift those who come after me. I want to ensure that the work I do leaves an impact that lasts. Whether it’s through future projects, mentorship, or community initiatives, I want my contributions to be a source of empowerment for others. I want to inspire young leaders to take action, step outside their comfort zones, and realize that their voices and ideas matter. I want to be remembered not just for what I accomplished, but for how I uplifted others and contributed to something greater than myself.
