There are many needs in many communities, and if they are addressed it can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals. One of my community’s most important needs is access to quality dental care. Dental care is often overlooked and plays a crucial role in people’s overall well-being. Many people suffer our community suffer from dental issues due to the lack of education and access to proper dental care. And this gap in dental care services is something that I am passionate about addressing.

After high school, I plan to pursue a career as a dental hygienist. After shadowing a dental hygienist at HT Complete Family Dentistry located in Overland Park, I decided to pursue a career in dental hygiene because I was inspired by the positive impact this dental hygienist can have on patient’s health, and this decision is motivated by my desire to make a difference in my community by creating a comfortable environment for my future patients and educating them on the importance of dental care. Dental hygienists play a critical role in preventive dental care, and I believe that through this career choice, I can help bridge the gap in dental health services in our community.

This journey to becoming a dental hygienist involves rigorous education and training, I plan to enroll at UMKC for their dental hygiene program where I will learn about oral health, dental procedures, and patient care. This education will provide me with the knowledge and skills needed to provide the high-quality dental care I dream of giving. I will also learn how to communicate effectively with patient, helping them understand the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene and how it impacts their overall health.

One of the most significant impacts I hope to make as a dental hygienist is to educate my future patients on the importance of dental care. Many people are still unaware of how oral health affects their overall body and well-being. Poor dental hygiene can lead to various hleath issues, including heart disease, respiratory and the worst diabetes. By educating them, I aim to prevent these issues and promote a healthier community in my community.

Creating a comfortable environment for patients is also a huge priority for me. I know growing up many dreaded going to the dental office I know I did. People experience anxiety when visiting the dentist which can make them from seeking the care they need. As a dental hygienist, I will strive to create a welcoming and reassuring atmosphere, ensuring the patients feel at ease during their visits. This approach will encourage more people to seek regular dental care, leading to better oral health outcomes.

In addition to providing direct patient care, I plan to engage in community outreach programs to raise awareness about dental health. These programs could include free dental check-ups in local schools and community centers. I know my school provides these checks. By reaching out to the community, I hope to educate a broader audience about the importance of dental hygiene and provide resources for those who may not have easy access to dental care.

My future education as a dental hygienist will not only help me with the skills needed for the job but also provide me with lots of knowledge to advocate for better dental health in my community. I hope to be able to work with local health organizations and promote initiatives that improve access to dental care and education. This calling is essential for creating long-term changes that benefit the entire community.

In the end, the need for quality dental care in our community is a significant issue that I am passionate about addressing. By becoming a dental hygienist, I plan to create a comfortable environment for my future patients and educate them on the importance of dental care and its impact on their overall health. My future education will provide me with the skills and knowledge needed to make a positive impact on my community.
