Senior Essay 48

My various extracurricular activities have enabled me to learn and execute what it means to be a leader through clear communication, organization, understanding, and adaptability. One way I have demonstrated leadership would be through my various roles in extracurricular activities. Throughout my eleventh year, as Treasurer of Junior Board I led in the organization of a fundraiser and prom. Directing a group of members in planning, advertising, and running a fundraiser includes a lot of organization, good communication, and adaptability. Our group decided on a hispanic game similar to Bingo. A lot of planning went into this fundraiser as the game is typically held in Spanish, through lots of problem solving we adapted the game to be inclusive for our entire school body. Additionally, we sold tickets for our fundraiser; after I created a schedule for selling, we implemented it. Throughout selling there would occasionally be situations to arise not only for our fundraisers but also in our prom ticket selling, as situations arose me or our other officers would handle them. Ultimately, in light of our short time line we decided to have me lead the Loteria Fundraiser and our President lead in our second fundraiser. As our events approached, our group elected to prioritize the closest event and then focus on the next one. Ultimately, through our efforts we raised a significant amount to include in our prom funds. Following the conclusion of our fundraisers our fundraising group shifted focus to prom. Within prom planning our meetings focused on supplies, set up in our venue, and selling/promotion. Things advanced quickly and ultimately there were some initial things to arise during our set up prior to the event but either me or my officers quickly worked to solve them, leading to a successful event. The photo booths ran smoothly, food was enjoyed, the DJ played a good playlist, and crowning went really well. Even cleaning up went quickly through our efforts. In addition to my work in groups like Junior Board I also demonstrate leadership in my other extracurricular activities like dance. As dance Team Manager I work hard to keep my dance team doing well. This includes managing equipment for my team, supporting communication between coaches and dancers, and ensuring the smooth running of all performances including: half time performances, parades, pep rallies, and other events.
Part of my work in so many extracurricular activities is due to my desire to improve not only as a leader but also in various essential skills that will be the foundation for my future career as a pilot. I aim to continue in university within various activities to not only continue developing as a leader but also to advance my knowledge in the aviation field. I aim to hopefully become a room advisor for my dorms and become involved in the aviation industry either through a program or start work at an airport. I would like to prioritize aviation organizations as there are more opportunities available at my university. One organization I am interested in joining is Women in Aviation. Ultimately, I hope to demonstrate leadership through officer roles in organizations and in my career as an Airline Pilot. Outside of my career and school I have this hope to start an organization, once I graduate, that will provide scholarships for students in my parents hometown in Mexico. I want to be a leader not only through school organizations and my career but also in my own way to provide help for others.
