Senior Essay 61

At my school, I have demonstrated leadership by running the 2026 senior page on Instagram. I plan events like senior skip day, senior pranks, and make sure to post updates about our school. I hope to demonstrate leadership in the future by becoming a dentist and owning my own private practice. My experience running the senior page on Instagram has taught me how to compromise, communicate, and the importance of community, which are essential traits that all leaders should have.
When planning senior events, I make sure to post polls so people can vote on ideas and dates that work best for them. When I know what people would like to do or what day works for them, I will compromise with others who voted differently, telling them that their idea was still good and we can do it next time. I communicate with them that their idea wasn’t the most popular, and that’s why I didn’t choose it. I, of course, can’t make everyone happy because everyone has different things going on and different ideas of fun. This is something I struggled with at first because if I could, I’d like to make everyone happy. This, of course, isn’t always achievable, but I feel confident when most of the feedback I get is positive. I also make TikTok’s with seniors at my school to make sure everyone is included since it’s our final year of high school. This makes me feel a sense of community at my school because many people get excited to film videos. This has also taught me how to market things to get the word out. I like running this page because I make sure that everyone’s events and sports are included. Most of the people in my grade follow this page, so I like knowing I keep them informed about current events happening in our school that they maybe didn’t know about.
The career that I am set on is a dentist and owning my own personal practice. Since I am going to be the owner, I will be the leader of the office. I am going to be applying things that I am learning from running the senior page in my office. I will make sure I hear everyone’s point so I can compromise with them and make the best decision for the office. I will make sure we have team lunches so we can stay connected and so my team members can communicate any concerns they have to me or others. I not only want to demonstrate leadership in my office but also in my community. I want to be someone all little girls of color can look up to. In my community, most people expect to fail because of the statistics that are always pushed in our faces. When I tell people in my community that I’m going to be a dentist, many of them don’t believe me because they’ve never seen it done before. I want to show them that it can be done and that girls like us can become what we have always dreamed of.
In conclusion, running the senior Instagram page has taught me many skills that are needed to be a good leader. These are skills I am going to use in my future when I reach my goal of becoming a dentist and owning a practice. I am aiming to inspire young girls and give back to my community. I hope that I can make a difference in my community and that I can be someone people can look up to.
