As a senior in the 20/20 Leadership program, I have experienced firsthand what it means to lead with purpose, find growth through challenges, and inspire others. This program has pushed me to venture outside of my comfort zone, strengthening my abilities along the way and helping me understand the significance of leaving a legacy that goes beyond my success. The program has taught me many valuable skills that I hope to exhibit as a leader in my community and career.

When I first joined 20/20 Leadership, I thought that being a leader simply meant being the one in charge. However, my time in the program has redefined what it means to be a leader. It is about leading a life of service, being confident, and having the ability to uplift those around me. Through the activities offered by the program, I have gained confidence in my ability to engage with diverse groups of people and network effectively. One of the most defining moments for me in the program was during the Career and Business Expo event this past December, where I had the opportunity to communicate with top Kansas City professionals from various industries. The experience not only boosted my confidence but also broadened my career interests, introducing me to fields like law and social services that I had not previously put much thought into. To this day, I keep many of the business cards I received as a reminder of the connections I made. I plan to develop these relationships and leverage them as I explore future career opportunities.

The lessons I have learned in 20/20 Leadership will guide me in my future endeavors, particularly in my pursuit of international studies and cultural diplomacy. This program has taught me the importance of understanding different perspectives and leading with empathy, which are skills that are essential for my intended career path. Beyond academics, I plan to use what I have learned to serve my community. Volunteering has always been a passion of mine, and 20/20 Leadership has shown me how to take service to the next level. I want to initiate and organize meaningful projects that work to improve my community. Whether it is through mentoring younger students, leading community initiatives, or advocating for change where it is needed, I will carry forward the leadership values the program has instilled in me.

To me, leaving a legacy isn’t just about making an impact that continues long after I am gone. It’s also about paving the way for others, creating opportunities, and inspiring future leaders. My goal is to leave a legacy of empowerment and inclusivity. I want to encourage others to use their voices, embrace new experiences, and take action in their communities. In the future, I hope to mentor students in leadership programs like this one, ensuring that the knowledge, opportunities, and skills I have gained from 20/20 Leadership are passed on to future aspiring young leaders.

Being a part of the 20/20 Leadership program has shaped me into a more confident, resilient, and proactive leader. This program has given me the tools to not only succeed personally but also to uplift those around me and seek opportunities to build a stronger community. As I move forward, I will carry the lessons of leadership, service, and resilience with me, ensuring that the impact of this experience continues far beyond my time in the program.
