Since joining Leadership 2020 I have learned to be responsible, committed and prepared for anything that may be upcoming. This school year, my responsibilities have doubled in school and in my personal life. I have had to keep up with every assignment and every car insurance payment. These things are challenging but 2020 has helped me to feel equipped with the necessary tools to complete all of these tasks.
I believe that these skills have helped me to become a better leader because I have gained knowledge I believe can help other people. I have learned to be responsible so now I can effectively lead by priority and know what has to be done. I will be able to lead by example and show those who follow me that it is good to uphold yourself to a standard you would want to see out of another leader and that it is good to be resilient but it is also good to know when to admit you need improvement. I have also learned to remain committed. As a leader this has been important to me. It shows that I am able to acknowledge that I am not particularly excited for what needs to be done but finding a way to get it done regardless and making sure it gets done as soon as possible. Without this skill, me as a leader would fall short on providing finished results. With this skill, those around me feel assured that whatever task that is at hand will get done because I am committed to the cause. Lastly, I feel that I have learned to be prepared for any circumstance. Whether that means business casual, or good walking shoes I am prepared for what is to come. This has added to my leadership abilities because it shows how I can adapt and become the part that is missing. I won’t drag a group down because I was not paying attention to what was needed. To me all these traits are what it takes to be a true and successful leader.
Being responsible, committed and ready will be unendingly useful in the future as I continue my education. As my life begins to change and I move into a more independent life, I will become my own leader. Choosing what paths I want to go down or what route I want my life to go, I will always make sure I am responsible, committed and ready for whatever life throws at me. I will continue to speak my mind to those who will listen and let my voice be heard. I will try my hardest to guide those around me when they seem lost.
The current/working definition of legacy is “the long-lasting impact of particular events, actions, etc. that took place in the past, or of a person’s life.” For the most part I can agree with this description of the word legacy but if I were to take it a step further I would say legacy is a much more personal and deep thing. Your legacy inspires people for many years after you are gone to follow in your footsteps and make a difference like you did. It lets those among you remember you for what you did and for who you are. Leaving a legacy to me means that I have made change in this world for good. Even if the world doesn’t remember my name, you can still see the change I made in the most beautiful ways.
