I have been a part of 2020 Leadership since the second semester of my freshman year. I am beyond grateful for all the diverse experiences that 2020 Leadership has provided for me. From touring the Federal Reserve to presenting and carrying out a sustainability plan for &&&& &&&&, the fun is never-ending.

Because of 2020 Leadership, I now have time management, excellent communication, and networking skills. During my junior year, my school’s project was saving our high school’s front pond. We created a budget, and plan, and took donations from local businesses. My group wrote emails and made phone calls to the local businesses to receive the donations needed. Our main partners were The KC Farm School and the Environmental Science class at &&&& &&&& &&&&. Another one of my jobs during this project was creating a plan to help save our front pond and a PowerPoint presentation. This project allowed me to grow as a leader by teaching me lifelong skills I can keep with me through college and my future career.

After graduating from &&&& &&&& &&&&, I plan to attend The University of Kansas for a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education followed by a related master’s degree. While a student at KU I plan to pledge into a service sorority and audition for the Rock Chalk Dance Team or Marching Band. I will continue being a leader in my new community by being a model student. Being a leader is not always leading a protest or organizing a school semi-formal. By being a model student, I can lead myself to a brighter future and lead others to do so with me. I will continue to use the time management, networking, and communication skills that 2020 leadership taught me while attending KU.

As a future educator who wants to continue serving the community, they grew up in. Leaving a legacy is something that I value. To me, leaving a legacy is giving something that will be treasured by those affected for a greater future. I can leave a legacy with 2020 Leadership by offering to speak with any students looking into the University of Kansas or Education. By doing this, current 2020 Leadership students will be able to see themselves in the future and possibly transform their career path.

I want to become an educator in the Kansas City metro area. It is important to me to stay local because I want to help my community grow. Being an educator in Kansas City means that I will get to inspire future generations and give them the drive to succeed. Not only will I get to educate students, but I will be able to form deeper connections with my students and co-workers since I will be serving the community, in which I grew up. Coming back to my community as an educator also means that I will already understand the local resources that are available to my students and their families. It is important for students to have relatable teachers because students should have the opportunity to see themselves in all positions and feel valued. Because of 2020 leadership, I now know my true purpose in life but also how to network and advocate for myself, while being the type of leader I want to be.
