Senior 13

Currently, I am a senior in high school working on my real estate license. I am the executive director of my school store, increasing sales 200% year over year. Our school store sells merchandise, snacks, drinks and even fast food on fridays. With being the executive director my job is to manage all employees as well as making important business decisions. I also direct our school social media efforts on facebook, twitter, and instragram increasing engagement with our student base and fans over 1000%. These experiences ignited a passion for business and leadership. I am so excited to further my education and my knowledge for business in the fall at Kansas State University. I plan to continue my aspirations in real estate hoping to own my own real estate marketing firm one day.

To me leadership is the act of representing and guiding a team to the finish line. This involves motivating one, being a role model to one, communicating and building relationships with those around you. Leaders are trusted representatives. They listen and respect others opinions. They guide people and want the best for them. Being a leader is a huge honor of respect. I am a leader every day. An example of how I show leadership is to my dance team. I motivate our team in many different ways. I take on the role of being a strong role model for the younger ones. As a team captain I take the actions needed to help my team succeed.  Another leadership role and my favorite opportunity that Piper has brought for me was getting work with Nebraska Furniture Mart on a business plan. Five other students and I were selected to create a business plan and present to their board on a new project they were working on. It was awesome to have that experience and honor that they utilized some of my ideas.

One of my favorite organizations I have volunteered for was Schlagle Library. Schlagle Library is our county’s local library and learning center. During the summer they put on an amazing camp for ages 5-14. Throughout the week the kids go on nature walks, explore habitats, play games and do tons of crafts. As a volunteer I served as a camp counselor for the 5-6 year olds. This past summer was my 4th year volunteering. It’s something I look forward to doing every summer. I have counseled for many different ages but the 5-6 year old group has definitely been my favorite. I love working with young children and building those relationships with them. After spending a week with these young children I hope to have made an impact in their lives. Whether it was learning something new, helping them meet new friends or just that they had a good time at camp. I try to make their camp the best experience so they come back next summer. I love seeing their faces the next summer and rebuilding those relationships. One obstacle I face with the children is that not every activity goes smoothly. There is always a mess or tears that follows. I have learned to have patience with them and to just laugh about it. I plan to further my commitment to making my community a better place by continuing to volunteer for organizations I believe in and being a leader to all. I plan to be a civic leader for my community and represent it in a beneficial way.
