Senior 16

Being a Senior at my high school, it is my responsibility to be a role model for the grades below me. Passing down my wisdom to the incoming seniors is the least I could do for the future of my school. Growing up, I was far from what one would consider a leader. But after joining new programs and meeting new people, I became a leader that many people look up to. With a newfound confidence, I took it upon myself to become a teacher’s assistant during my free period. I was responsible for grading assignments, organizing papers, and tutoring students. My favorite job was to give school tours. I was the welcoming face for new students at my school and was responsible for making a good first impression on them. This job forced me to jump out of my comfort zone by speaking to new people. I ensured every student was prepared for their first day of school and was there for them when needed. I truly felt like a Leader for the first time. Many students I have toured at the very beginning of the school year still remember me to this day. It is refreshing to see them go on about how amazing their experience has been at our school.

A few years back, my whole class took a trip to the nearby elementary school where we read books to the 1st graders to improve their comprehension skills. Having three younger siblings, I was already experienced with kids and performed my task with ease. I took great pride in playing such an essential role in nurturing young children’s minds. This experience plays a large role in stemming my passion for helping others.

It is my dream to pursue a career in marketing. A marketer develops strategies for companies to help advertise and sell their products. I was first introduced to marketing at a Business Career Expo in 20/20 Leadership. I had the opportunity to meet several different people who had a career in marketing and other business areas. I instantly fell in love with the idea of collaborating with teammates and discussing various strategies, then putting them into play. Other career clusters such as finance, sales, and business management also sparked my interest. It is my passion to influence and improve the everyday lives of people worldwide. Numbers have always been my forte, and being a marketer combines my passion for math and helping others.

The leadership skills I have developed in high school will carry over into my future career. I aspire to be a shoulder anyone can lean on in my workplace. A dream of mine is to open a homeless shelter in my community. In order to run it properly, I must apply the leadership skills I have learned such as public speaking and diplomacy. My money management skills will help with the financial side of things. I am so excited and eager to explore the endless world of possibilities that have been unlocked from my leadership.
