Senior 19

As a little girl, I remember being isolated from everything and everyone. Fastward to this day I believe all that helped me become the person that I am today. Tearing those walls down was not easy but I believe it was a very brave thing to do. Leaders encounter themselves in difficult situations they have to act upon strength and braveness. In my opinion, I have grown to know more about myself and openly interact with those around me. I believe that 20/20 Leadership has made a very positive impact on my life.
Throughout my whole life, a soccer ball has always been involved. Coming from a family full of soccer players led me to pursue that hobby too. This sport has led me to meet new people and have different forms of communicating with others. Entering high school was something that I could not imagine because I did not know what to expect, yet I was so excited to join the girl’s soccer team. I remember that the season had come up and a few practices had already taken place, our captains were upperclassmen. They were girls I looked up to, they gave me advice which helped a lot, and even became my friends. Skip forward in time and you see me as the girl’s varsity soccer team. It was a great feeling to have been chosen because this means these girls saw me as someone who they can lead off, have trust in, and see as a guide.
My future has always been one of the main priorities in my life. I have always thought about doing something meaningful with my career. Since I plan on pursuing my future being an ultrasound technician and getting my bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography I have always thought about opening a free clinic for those women in poverty or those who are not able to get checked during their pregnancy. Due to past experiences, I have witnessed pregnant women in poverty, it is such a sad case that motivates me to make a change. Not only would they receive a monthly check-up for their babies but for themselves too. Moms are very special to the world so, why not the best way to help them out by doing this. Leaders always find a way to give back to their families and with my experiences with 20/20 leadership I have been able to expand my network and it has allowed me to keep pursuing this goal of mine.
I know many opportunities like 20/20 Leadership don’t happen too often, but I am overly appreciative of it. I never expected being around such a wonderful community would inspire me to be a better version of myself. Thanks to this program I have been able to expand my leadership and face some fears of mine which include speaking in front of large crowds and meeting new people. Many of the skills I have learned and advice I have received I know will benefit me in the future.
