There are many ways to demonstrate leadership, for example, by taking responsibility for your actions. I have shown leadership in my community, school, and home by mentoring the schoolchildren attending the Truman Elementary LINC program to hosting and participating in the Imagine club. Imagine is a club that appreciates and values the special needs children at Ruskin High School by arranging parties and events for them. I also partake in our school harvesters, handling and distributing food to those in need. As part of the 20/20 leadership class, I taught individuals outside of school that leadership is everywhere in life.

As the oldest of five children, raised by a single mother, I became a second mother to my siblings while my mother worked to provide us a place we call home. Caring for my siblings at a young age influenced me to care for others. From the age of seven to nine, I would counsel and supervise the preschool children of my local daycare, helping them with homework or resolving little conflicts that occurred. Advising, monitoring, and influencing children is something that I look forward to. At school, I always include everybody to participate in classroom discussions and meetings because everybody’s voice and opinion should be heard.

As a leader, I will do my best to pass on what I’ve learned about leadership to others. There is no better way to do that than by opening up a community recreation center. In this center, I would be able to lead, influence, assist, and congregate with the members of Kansas City. Although the Kansas City community isn’t as close as it should be, I want to have a chance to repair that. I want members of the community, especially teens, to have a place where they have a chance to be themself without any negative judgment from people. The community center will be open to everyone. Parents can ask for assistance with their bills without feeling ashamed. Having a safe place for parents to voice their concerns and ask for help is essential in bringing the community together. Teens can use the center as a safe gathering spot instead of going to dangerous places and falling into the wrong crowd. Violence will always be wherever you are, but having a community that trusts and helps each other could turn that fear into much more.

The center will help individuals branch out and mold them into becoming true leaders. Having a community that helps you achieve your goals can be life-changing. It can make you feel like you belong to something joyful. Although I am currently in high school, I want to help this community that I have been connected with since birth. The community recreation center will allow me to connect with fellow members of Kansas City. Leading my community to become a safe environment for our current and future members of society is foremost. As a leader, I want to aid people in finding their true selves and help them accomplish any desired goals in life.
