Throughout my time in high school, I’ve become deeply aware of several needs within my community, one of the most pressing being the lack of accessible and engaging opportunities for young people to get involved in technology and media. Growing up, I always found myself drawn to technology and the world of media production, whether it was through coding, video editing, or working on school projects. However, I realized that many students in my community, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, often didn’t have the same opportunities to explore these fields. Whether due to a lack of resources, mentorship, or exposure, many of my peers were unaware of the possibilities that technology and media could offer them. I saw this as not just a missed opportunity but a gap that could hinder their future success in an increasingly digital world.

As I look ahead, I plan to study computer science in college. This decision stems from my deep passion for technology, which has been a constant in my life, and my desire to help bridge the gap in my community when it comes to access to technology and media. I’ve always been fascinated by the way technology works, especially how small lines of code can come together to create something functional and impactful. Whether it’s building an app, analyzing data, or developing algorithms, I love the problem-solving aspect of computer science. But more importantly, I’ve come to see it as a tool that can drive positive change and create opportunities. My goal is to learn not only how to build new technologies but also how to share that knowledge with others, especially those who might not otherwise have access to these resources.

I believe that my future education will enable me to make a real impact in my community by addressing the need for better access to technology and media education. In college, I plan to take courses that will give me a solid foundation in computer science and programming. One of the things that inspired me to pursue this path was my experience founding and leading the Media Club at my high school. However, I also realized that there were many who didn’t have the resources or the guidance to fully realize their potential in this space. Additionally, my experiences as Senior Class President and as the founder of the Media Club have taught me the importance of leadership and collaboration. In the future, I plan to use these skills to create programs and initiatives that empower young people in my community to pursue their interests in technology. I want to give them the tools, knowledge, and confidence to explore new possibilities and build their futures with technology as a foundation.
