ESSAY PROMPT: Please compose a 600-700 word essay that addresses each of the following: Describe a need within your community. What do you plan to study after high school? How will your future education help you impact that need within your community?

Education is a privilege, which many forget. I come from a background where I could never forget that. Two of the things that I have become passionate about, through my education, are biology and business. I plan to attend a four-year university,  double major in business and biology, and receive a bachelor’s degree to pursue my education and career goals..

I always knew that I wanted to learn more about the creation of life. My passion for biology comes from a desire to help contribute to the medical field. I love how everything interconnects with biology and there’s always more to discover. The world is always changing, especially in diseases there’s always more to it than unknown ones. I want to help work towards a cure, especially one with cancer. Seeing kids and adults suffering from cancer always hit my heart. Another part of me wants to go into the business field due to how powerful it can be. I am drawn to business due to its power to create opportunities and drive change. I know these skills will be invaluable in my future.

I want to be involved in the medical field to help push forward for a change. I want to help people find cures for diseases and help prevent them. I lean towards biology because I want to be a biomedical scientist. In business, I want to study health administration or real estate. I see myself in both business and health. I want the best of both worlds. My goal at the end of the day is to become a person who can help those in need. I want to become a biomedical scientist. Then later on I want to own a pharmaceutical formulation. I love the fact I can help people because that’s what I want. This world suffers a lot, and while many choose not to help, I believe others like me are willing to unite and make a difference. I want to show that I can be a part of the people who want to help and give them a chance.

Though I grew up in America, my roots lie in Pakistan, where both my parents come from.I plan to help people from all over, not just here. I want to give back to people who aren’t fortunate to have the luxury. I know Pakistan isn’t a rich country and there are so many homeless people just begging on the streets. Some of them die from hunger and some die from diseases. I want to open a pharmaceutical formulation down in Pakistan and make medicine affordable for them to buy. I love the idea of helping people down there. It’s a community my parents grew up in, it’s the place I come from even though I grew up here. Even though this community hasn’t always been the kindest, I still want to give back.

At times I have thought my dreams were too big. I even got it from other people. On top of that, in my culture, it’s known that women end up as housewives. It’s a stereotype for brown women to be in the kitchen, cook for their husbands, take care of the family, not talk, not speak in front of others, not be too loud, not laugh with their mouths open, be obedient, to just listen and not lead because they’re just a woman. I hate those stereotypes because I’m nothing like them, and I refuse to end up being like them.

I’m a person who wants a change in this world. I want to help people and end up minimizing stereotypes thrown at women of color. Even after this I still plan on showing my community how you shouldn’t throw stereotypes at women. I want to prove not just them wrong but everyone who looks down on women. I want my parents to see that their daughter can be more than just a housewife in the kitchen because I am more. I can be more than just an immigrant kid. I want to show how a brown woman can be successful. A brown woman who can change this corrupted world for the better.
