ESSAY PROMPT: Please compose a 600-700 word essay that addresses each of the following: Describe a need within your community. What do you plan to study after high school? How will your future education help you impact that need within your community?
In my city of Bonner Springs, one pressing need in our community is to enhance our mental health resources. While being from a small town, residents can and do often face challenges related to mental health. Issues surrounding mental health cause further complications to the situation, making the individual hesitant to seek assistance. To address this need, the community could benefit from the increase of awareness programs that educate residents about mental health and promote better, available resources! Once established, more local support groups and counseling services would provide vital platforms for individuals to share their experiences and receive the needed guidance. I and others would greatly benefit from the idea of more mental health resources. I think those who are staying in Bonner Springs after graduation need outside resources. We have resources, but those are only for the students and staff inside the school. I think that adding outside resources would also benefit others and the community. Additionally, we could collaborate with schools to implement mental health education. This could foster a supportive environment for younger generations, encouraging open discussions about anyone’s mental well-being. When prioritizing mental health resources, Bonner Springs can create a more supportive and understanding community. This would not only improve the quality of life for individuals struggling with mental health challenges but also strengthen community ties and foster a new culture of empathy and support! In the long run, adding these mental health resources will greatly and positively grow our community. Everyone will eventually come together as a whole and learn how to be there for others in need! In the end, the whole community will be together in unison. Being in 2025, it is essential for one to need assistance with their mental health. After high school, I plan to attend Central Methodist University for softball and academics. I will be majoring in Criminal Justice and minoring in Marine Biology and Business. If all fails, I have marine biology as a minor to fall back on. Also, while majoring in criminal justice, I have the opportunity to be a crime scene investigator. If all works out, once I graduate from college, I plan to attend either Washburn University or the University of Missouri Kansas City for law school. If everything works out and I get to pursue my dream as a defense attorney, my goal is to first make sure everyone is comfortable around me and that I can be a person they trust. The things people go through can have a huge impact on them in the future. When coming to me needing help with the law, some people might be upset and not okay due to the things they are being accused of or did. It is my job to gain their trust as their attorney. For my community of Bonner Springs, I would love to one day come back and help out my community. It had nothing to do with my career, it’s solely from my heart. Like I said in the beginning, Bonner Springs is a small city. We still need to have our focus on the small towns and not always the big ones. While being involved in law, I can make a difference by addressing mental health issues myself. I could advocate for better mental health policies, help create programs that support those in need, and even work on legal cases that protect the rights of individuals with mental health challenges. Plus, having a legal background can help you navigate the systems that often leave people without the support they need. In the long run, it is all about using my knowledge to make a positive impact!
