ESSAY PROMPT: Please compose a 600-700 word essay that addresses each of the following: Describe a need within your community. What do you plan to study after high school? How will your future education help you impact that need within your community?
My plan after high school was a tricky question for me; at first, I thought I had everything planned: going to my dream university and graduating from the university I had dreamed of. But as each day goes by, as high school graduation keeps getting closer, I just think to myself and wonder what I will do. Even though I have a good plan after high school, I still feel lost or stuck or like something is missing. I’d like to know if my plans will work out. My plans after high school are to go to Johnson Community College, study for two years, and then transfer to Fort Hays State University and get my bachelor’s degree in interior design. Then, I will eventually start my own business in interior design and then start my life wherever the wind takes me. As I am grown up and have to start making adult decisions, it’s scary; it’s like a bird learning to fly for the first time. But I don’t have wings to hold me up and fly. But I have support from my family and friends, and I know I can make it out alive in this world as long as I try my best and learn to believe in myself. I can fly in this world and make the best out of it.
I will make college fun by meeting new people, joining groups and after-school activities, and helping out in my community like always. My future education will impact the needs within my community because I will take all the knowledge that I know and gather it all up to do different ways to help support my community. I design beautiful lofts for buildings around my community, do volunteer work in small businesses and help out the people in need, and do community service hours or sort food dispensaries. And to help focus on social change and contribute. Science, math, and social studies will be used in future education to understand better and answer community problems. This will make it possible to create programs and raise awareness to address the issues related to education, mental health, and the environment. For example, my understanding of how to better support people with mental illness and promote awareness to lessen stigma would improve as a result of my psychology coursework on mental health. In courses like environmental science, I may study how to address regional problems like pollution or sustainable practices to safeguard natural resources and public health. I will also learn how to plan projects, push for change, and work with others to put reasonable solutions into practice by enrolling in leadership, communication, and community engagement courses. Whether it’s offering assistance, establishing educational opportunities, or encouraging environmental sustainability, the skills I acquired from my study will enable me to design programs, spearhead projects, and collaborate with neighborhood organizations to solve the urgent needs in my community.
Ultimately, education gives me the skills to make wise judgments and take significant action to benefit others around me, enabling me to have a genuine, good influence. Ultimately, my education will give me a comprehensive grasp of how communities operate and what is required to address issues successfully. It will give me the confidence to act, whether it be by volunteering, pushing for legislative reforms, or starting neighborhood initiatives to help create a more robust, healthy, and just community. I’ll be more equipped to assist people and have a long-lasting, constructive influence the more knowledge I acquire.
