Gene Denton Essay 12

A very present need in my community is the need for basic hygiene products. In my community, we see many students and their parents who struggle to make ends meet, and because of this, they are not able to meet the need for hygiene products. When growing up in these types of situations, it is very hard to find joy in yourself. Many are able to tell when a student’s family is struggling to find the money for certain hygiene products. Growing up seeing this, I always knew to never judge or say anything because I understood that it was not their fault, although many other students did not do the same. If someone came to school not smelling great, many would make them feel isolated or ashamed because they don’t take the time to understand that it is not the student’s choice to have to live this way. If a student has to endure this type of bullying as a child, it creates a kid who will never feel accepted by anyone. While many schools offer some type of program to help the student, many still don’t meet the needs that are necessary for them to live a normal life and be able to feel clean. A lot of students and adults have the privilege of not realizing that feeling clean has a major impact on someone’s self-esteem. After high school, I plan to study for my Bachelor’s in Nursing, then go on to become a pediatric nurse, and possibly do so in a school environment. I find great pride in knowing that someday I will be able to create a safe place for children where they will be able to have access to the supplies they need to feel good in themselves. Eventually, after working for a few years, I hope to be able to go back to school to get my master’s and become a nurse practitioner. With this, I hope to be able to help even more kids and their families. This career path will create a wonderful way for me to be able to help the need for hygiene products within families. Sometimes all the family needs is somewhere to go to be able to obtain these supplies. As a pediatric nurse, I would know of all of the places they could go to be able to find help and supplies. Because I know the impact that these supplies can make on students’ lives, I will take the extra step to be able to help them get them. Students deserve to have the need to be able to keep themselves clean. It is a simple yet very important thing that can help change their entire lives. If they are able to have these hygiene products as a child, they will know to keep these habits going as an adult. Not only does it have an impact on how they are treated, but it also helps to create good hygiene practice, which is very important to have, especially when going into their teenage years. Having these good practices will help them to be successful in their future life. If I have the privilege of being able to help anyone have a successful life, I would be honored to be able to do so. My future career as a nurse would help me be able to help others in many ways, as I have explained. I have always felt the need to help those around me and those I have never met. This is one of many reasons I am very excited to begin my career in nursing, as I have already been able to help my community members with volunteering. As a student and a future nurse, I understand what these children go through, and I will do everything I can now and in the future to help them have an easier life.
