Gene Denton 02

I am a part of many communities from school, sports, and other activities like Upward Bound. Every single one of the communities that I’m in I love dearly and I plan to give back to these communities when I graduate college. School is a community that I love because it can lead me to higher education, not only that it gives me so many opportunities to learn and if you need help they find resources that can help you graduate. My sports community is a tight community where the coach and the players care about you and not only want you to do good on the court or field but off them too they go above and beyond for you like putting their own money to make us better by sending us to camps for the summer and having study hall so your grades can be high because if they’re not you are not playing. That’s great because it keeps your grades up because the word student is in front of the word  “student-athlete”. Programs like Upwardbound help you get prepared for college for first-time students, not only that you meet people like you and share stories and become close with kids like you, but we are mostly going to college. When I graduate college I will be in a position to help all of my community because the two careers I’m looking into will help the community. I’m looking into teaching and counseling. Teaching will help the community because I will be teaching the next generation so they can get higher education and that would help with the poverty rate. Also, I plan on being a positive role model in the community and helping kids learn that no matter where you come from you can go to college if that is what you choose. If I go the Counseling route mental health is so vital to the community helping kids and adults with their mental health can help with the crime rates and people making the wrong decisions. Helping people know that their life means something can mean a lot to the community. On top of helping people with the career I would have, I would help people the best I can by volunteering my time to teams and programs like Upward Bound to further help people from my community because they helped me with everything in college when none of my family members have gone. When I was younger I used to go to a place under the bridge they called it Outreach and help serve food They also had clothes hygiene products snacks and the church would come out and pray over them every Sunday it was a very humbling experience even though we didn’t have much but helping people who had less really spoke to me so me and my sister plan to when we get older start that here or wherever we land when we settle down and find a home so we can help other people in the community that needs it. Having an education will help me make connections and help me get a career you do need money to help so the career will get me the money I need and connections for donations or people who want to volunteer it will help me get a degree for helping people rather it be teaching or counseling because both helps the community. School is important to you, not just for higher education but also for the opportunities and support it provides. I plan to have a positive impact on my community no matter what. That’s how I would contribute to the community when I graduate college.
