A leader is someone that others can look up to, in their time in need, someone that you aspire to be as you progress further into life. Someone fulls of guidance and inspiration. When growing up, I didn’t have many leaders in my life besides, my mother, an independent ambitious woman acted as my guiding light. she is someone who I strive to be. This is the sole purpose as to why I, decided that I wanted to be a leader. To get a better understanding of being a leader, during my high school career, I participated in various leadership activities whether it be inside or outside of school.
I actively participate in various leadership roles inside of school, by being on the Student Council and Leadership Council. I strongly belive that these organizations aren’t just ways to look good on a sheet of paper, but a way strengthen a students leadership mindset, so I humbly suggest students participate and enroll in similar organizations as they can enhance abilities like being able to collaborate effectively with diverse groups or being able to exchange and enhance student experiences. These experiences made a big impact on my life as they helped develop my views on leadership. They enabled me, to lead my peers to greatness. However, it is unfortunate to say, but currently, we live in an era where most students go to schools where they aren’t presented with the same opportunities as their peers, How do I know, that other schools provide these opportunities, I don’t know. I can say though that I go to one of those schools. As I progressed in life, I’ve noticed that me and my peers aren’t presented with the opportunities our peers at different schools have, we have many but few opportunities. Often we have to take the initiative to search and track down these opportunities ourselves. With this information, I decided to take the initiative and present a change, with the help of a program I am in called “Student Voice.” In this program I can express my ideals and opinions freely; with this newfound ability I am effectively able to voice concerns me and my peers have about our school. I act as a voice and purpose for the student voice in my school so when it comes to finding opportunities for myself and my peers, I jump at every chance. I intend to take the initiative and lead my peers in the right direction.
Furthermore, I am not doing this just because, rather I am doing this because this is a passion, one that can make a meaningful impact. I believe that every student in school deserves equal experiences, and I believe that this change can greatly impact not just schools, but their communities as well. Change takes time, with just enough persistence and resilience. As I write this essay, with wishful thinking, I hope that my legacy can continue in the future. During my journey, I can say, that leadership isn’t based on a title, you have to work to become a leader, being a leader is defined by your impact, and what you do for your peers. It’s about uplifting and not bringing others down, and empowering them to the best of your ability. As they say, Leadership can be for anyone, but not everyone can be a leader.
