Senior Essay 39

From being captain of my color and winter guard team, working on my junior project in 20/20 Leadership, and being a strong leader in both my theatre and choir departments, I have been able to demonstrate leadership skills since the very beginning of my high school career. Whether at school, at work, or doing work within my community, I have built a name for myself. But I do not work hard for fame or anyone’s good graces. I do it for the abundant amount of love and commitment I have for my people and organizations. I need to spark positive change, inspire others, and raise others to be headstrong leaders as well. I am president of my Thespian theatre organization, and I run a social media account to advertise our shows, draw in unfamiliar and curious students to audition and participate, and educate others in the importance of theatre and drama education in our lives. Additionally, I am a section leader in two advanced groups and one large group, consistently taking a group of singers in my section through our music, teaching them to be better musicians, building strong connections, and enhancing their love and understanding of music so they can become strong leaders as well. I have also recently visited the Capitol in Topeka with my superintendent to give a testimony to a board committee, which was live-streamed to my school (we ended up changing the law!)
My leadership is obvious throughout my high school, and I do not plan to stop there. I hope to get to college and display my determination, talent, and leadership skills. I want to become a group leader in the organizations I love, and improve issues, build morale, increase individual productivity and trust, and act as a person people can look up to, confide in, and rely on. I hope to be heavily involved in my community and surrounding schoolmates in my future, and create a name for myself there. I know that it is critical to have someone dependable and resilient, and I also acknowledge that there is no better person to do so than myself. Being so incredibly involved in my school certainly has its downfalls. There is always at least something I’m required to do: some group I need to reach out to, some project that needs finishing, some person who needs my help. However, I find that there is nothing more rewarding than being involved with others and making a positive impact on at least one person’s life. My purpose in life is to uplift the people around me and continually inspire others. Regardless of what my future will hold, I know that I will become a strong advocate in whatever community I find myself a part of, for being a leader never leaves you. I know that the empty chair I left behind will be filled, and that I am soon to fill an empty chair myself. My need to illuminate a new path forward with unwavering resolve will forever be a part of who I am, and I know I will become a leader anywhere I go.
