Senior Leadership Scholarship Essay 14
Leadership to me is more than just a title. It’s about donating your own time to help others who need it more. The biggest gift you can give someone is your time. Throughout my involvement with the National Honors Society, KAY club, and National Spanish Society I’ve had numerous opportunities to lead by example and give back to my community. From organizing parent passes for athletic events to coaching young athletes in volleyball and participating in community service efforts, I have given my time and energy to positively impact those around me. One of my most impactful leadership experiences was creating a parent pass that allowed families to pay all entrance fees upfront, eliminating the hassle of having to grab cash and pay a gate fee every time they came to see a home game. This initiative made it easier for parents to support their children’s activities as well as foster a stronger sense of community at our school’s sporting events. It requires problem-solving, organization, and communication skills that are essential for any leader. I also have played a significant role in various service projects that benefited those in need. I helped package food for families struggling to afford meals during the holidays. Ensuring no one was going hungry during the holiday season. Additionally, I participated in a blood drive, getting people to sign up to save 3 lives. I was able to understand how important it is to donate blood as well as get people to donate blood, even though I wasn’t able to myself. My involvement in highway cleanup and donations to the Sunflower House further reflect my commitment to improving my community. But beyond these efforts, I sought to bring joy to others in creative ways. I made dog toys from T-shirts and blankets for foster children, providing comfort to animals and children who needed it most. Dressing up as Elsa for a Christmas parade was another way I brought smiles to children’s faces, creating a magical experience for them during the holiday season. It was also a personal benefit that I got to make these children’s day. Similarly, I decorated my car and handed out candy as a trunk-or-treat event, ensuring young kids had a fun and safe Halloween celebration. Leadership also means stepping up to mentor and guide others. Helping coach a 7th-grade volleyball team allowed me to support younger athletes in developing their skills and confidence. Through encouragement and teamwork, I helped foster a positive environment where they could grow both on and off the court. All of these experiences have shaped me into a strong, compassionate leader who hopes to keep making a difference and to keep volunteering my time to help others. I have learned so much through leadership. It isn’t about seeking recognition but about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Whether through large initiatives or small acts of kindness, I strive to lead with empathy, dedication, and a commitment to service. My involvement in these activities has not only strengthened my leadership abilities but has also reinforced my passion for helping others, a value I will carry with me throughout my life. Unsure of what the future brings for me, but one thing I know for certain is I will still volunteer my time however I can. As well as continue to find ways I can help others and better my community.
