Senior Leadership Scholarship Essay 38

During my high school years, I have done various activities and community service events that have helped me become the leader I am today. One of my proudest leadership accomplishments is when I was in the student’s voice and I and my peers advocated to get our school funding. As a group, we made a presentation about the changes we wanted in our school and how much money we would need. I decided to take the leadership position in the group. This presentation allowed me to get in touch with the student body and learn more about how the school is run. This was my first head-on experience as a leader, through this experience I realized that I loved being a leader and advocating for others. We did not win the funding but it sparked a passion in me that I still have today. Even though I didn’t win I sparked up conversation for change in the school and brought many issues the students had to the staff. Overall I was proud of the work I did and it made me want to start doing more leadership work around the school. Another time I demonstrated leadership in the school/community was by helping with the BSU clothes drive. While doing the clothes drive I was in charge of marketing it to the students and gathering the clothes. I decorated boxes and placed them around the school. I also went around to different classes talking about the clothes drive and how it would benefit our community. And at the end, I gathered the clothes so they could be sent to various shelters. This was another one of my favorite leadership moments because I had a passion for the cause. I got to help so many people in my community in need through this cold season and that really put a smile on my face. Through that experience, I got to realize what kind of leader I want to be remembered as. In the future, I want to become a leader that helps underprivileged communities through community service and marketing. I dream of starting a marketing organization that plans and markets events that will help the community around me. My organization would get community feedback and help solve problems they might have. We would hold various community events and find other leaders to help out with the activities we have planned. I see myself being a selfless leader who takes what my community wants into account. I want to lead by demonstration. I will not lead with greediness in my heart but from the love of what I do. I want to teach other leaders that leadership is more than just controlling a situation but doing what’s best for the community. I look forward to making my leadership dream come true. It will be a long road and a lot of hard work but with the passion I have in my heart, I know I can do it. By demonstrating leadership in my community I hope to leave a legacy for future generations.
