Senior Leadership Scholarship Essay 39

Being in my last year of my high school career, I feel grateful for all my family, friends, and teachers who told me the importance of being involved. Looking back at all the extracurricular activities and work experience I have been a part of has really helped me gain leadership skills and the ability to be a leader.

Student council, 2020 leadership, and link crew are the three programs that I can really say have given me the ability to be a leader. I have been on board for my school’s student council for three years and a member for one of those years. Being a freshman representative, I was given the responsibility to have a group and help organize fundraisers and events. I remember having to organize the yearly kids trick or treat event at our school. Getting volunteers and setting up the games, having to divide responsibility. As a freshman, it was the first time that I was able to see how leadership really works. My sophomore and junior years I have really gotten the experience of being responsible for coordinating events such as pep rally and spirt week . I think every single experience has added more to my skills and work ethic, and it really shows. Link Crew is a school program where we help the incoming freshmen adapt to high school. A day or two before the first day of school we divide the freshman in groups and do team building activities with them along with giving them a tour of school. During the school year we go to their class and do more activities with them. We also help them get ready and study for their finials with their peers. This is where I think I can say it’s hands-on and face-to-face experience on how to lead and the way people can react to the ways you talk, act, and behave with other people. Those abilities to be a leader to everyone no matter what the event is. Of course, 2020 leadership will be the program I am thankful to have joined since my freshman year. Throughout these four years, I have been to event after event where I have learned skills that I have already used on an everyday basis and have been able to have talked to many people to help prepare me for what’s to come.

To think about my future and it really does terrify me, the thought of having to at least know and have an outline or having to completely change your plan. What I do know is that in life there are skills that we have to know, such as communication, decision-making, having a vision, and much more. These are all leadership skills, skills that as a nurse I will need. Both in college and in the “real world,” and when I am a nurse, as I plan to be. I know you can’t do things alone all the time, and I’ll need to ask for assistance, which is a good thing, this is why I’m glad to know how to communicate. The proper way to deal with problems or accomplish my tasks will require skills that I know I need to know when starting college which is a whole new environment away from everyone I know. I can’t even begin to think of the everyday things that I will be using these skills for without even knowing. What I do know is this is what will help me be even more successful in an everyday aspect. Leadership and over all skills that I have acquired will help me adapt to my future with all different aspects which is why my experience will help me thrive in the next chapter of life.
