Senior Leadership Scholarship Essay 41
Well, to start off, I have led my group in my biomedical engineering class. We are designing and creating a new way to deliver medicine. Our draft is the EpiPen model. I would consider myself the de facto leader of the group and have many times been a facilitator of group thoughts and work. In Harvesters I am one of the leaders of my table and I make sure that the family with whichever corresponding number matches the front of the car receives the appropriate amount of goods and I tell my peers the amount to give out to families. In leadership, I have exemplified these skills. I have a plan to prepare my team for whichever mission we are assigned for. Usually I am the person who is reminding my team of deadlines and specific things to do and work to do so we accomplish more work over time leading us closer to missions. I conversated with my team to make sure that we have specialised designated groups for each member to better execute whatever mission is occurring. In my freshman year, I was squad leader for MCJROTC and was at the time the only official excluding my commanding officer Col. Glasco, the member with the highest authority of my squad; I also designated a fire squad to lead over cadets in school work and other things relating to my platoon. Sophomore year, I was leading my team in AP world history to victory, amongst all of our challengers most of the time because I had the advantage of being heavily invested in the subject; doing extensive research in my personal time. In freshman year, also, in most of my classes I was the forerunner for the teacher to call because I simply had knowledge of the subject and I was an active participant in the class. At social events, I also coordinated those events, such as, at my mothers party and other events similar to that nature. In Track and Field in the distance group I was also the leader of that faction. I had the fastest times and my team relied on me from my freshman to junior year to provide for them and since we ran relays I had to not let them down and help us win. In powerlifting my senior year, I became a leader/inspiration to freshmen trying to lift. Because I was the oldest with the most experience and I gave mentorship to most of them in some way so again a de facto leader. In the future, when I’m an orthopaedic surgeon physician-scientist. I would love to be a leader of my group of fellow scientists in terms of new discoveries and revelations. I believe that becoming a leader of people would change the world for the better, as we would be rivals invariably, always trying to better ourselves in the mutually shared goal of betterment for the human race. I believe we would try to make surgery more effective and the way of saving peoples lives less risky. To be in that type of environment where it is a high stakes pressure innovative thinking environment would be quite stressful. But, for me, as a person, it is deeply rewarding when I do come up with an answer because I would be doing independent research on my chosen topic of expertise. I don’t believe I would be unhappy or stressed but instead truly blessed to be in my position and grateful to all those who helped me along the way.
