In admiration of my community togetherness outside of school, I decided to bring this community into my school through a Culture Club. However, to begin with, me and my classmates didn’t have enough money to start the club, so five others, as well as myself, used our idea in the 2020 Leadership Olympics competition, in which we had to present our idea to a group of panel members for five hundred dollars. We presented our project explaining how Culture Club is centered around bringing students and faculty together and serving various cultures at school through multicultural education, real-world work experience, cultural events, and leadership roles. We continued stating that, in this club, people from all cultures can share their ideas and thoughts about incorporating more customs and arts from different groups of students rather than only having individualized organizations. With great efforts and a hope for success, we won the award and started our culture club this year.
Leading this club has been a transformative experience, enabling me to develop more vital communication skills and overcome my introverted tendencies. I’ve cultivated a welcoming environment where individuals from all backgrounds can find common ground through shared similarities, languages, and culinary traditions. Through the club, I’ve spearheaded initiatives to enhance our school community, including establishing a prayer room, a legacy scholarship, and volunteering to read to elementary school children. Moreover, I’m committed to ensuring the inclusion of all my peers, regardless of the challenges they may confront.
As a leader of the Culture Club, I’ve witnessed the profound impact our initiatives have had on our school community. Among the significant opportunities we’ve pursued this year, one of the most notable is the proposal for a legacy scholarship for the graduation class of 2025 and beyond. This scholarship represents more than just financial assistance; it symbolizes our commitment to fostering educational excellence and empowering future generations. Through my dedication to spearheading this initiative and securing donors, the Culture Club’s legacy will extend far beyond the confines of Ruskin High School. It will resonate deeply within the fabric of the youth it serves, leaving an indelible imprint of unity and the pursuit of continuous educational growth.
The Culture Club’s legacy extends beyond its immediate impact, resonating deeply within the fabric of its community. Serving as a beacon of hope, the club inspires future generations to embrace cultural diversity and celebrate the richness of human experience. By providing a platform for minority voices to be heard and valued, the Culture Club cultivates a legacy of empowerment and social change, empowering individuals to advocate for inclusivity and equity in all aspects of society.
I hope its influence ripples outward, fostering a more inclusive and compassionate society where everyone feels a sense of belonging and worth. As alums carry forward the lessons learned and bonds forged within the club, its legacy continues to thrive, shaping the future with its enduring legacy of unity and acceptance. The club’s impact transcends generations, leaving an indelible mark on the collective consciousness and inspiring others to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in their communities and beyond.
