Alumni Essay 21
Reflecting on my participation in the youth Lead KC (formerly 20/20 Leadership program), As a leader I have grown to be better and do better. So many things have been taught and learned by participating in the program and new things that come with it. For example, being able to experience new things I don’t know about and leading it to students that’s younger or older than me and gain confident skills. Them being able to pass it on to other people. I grew with knowledge and skills that can lead me to an excellent path and beyond. It doesn’t have to be perfect but the journey I take I know is made for me in my own way. I can take that leadership even into my college life and make a use out of it.
Starting from the beginning of it. It wasn’t that much to help build my leadership or being a leader. I mean I can say there is something but it wasn’t that strong as it is right now. I had to really learn what it takes to be one, confident enough to be one, and really making myself who I am already to be one because being myself and how I decided to be a leader, is really what makes me a leader. Not what other people think, say, think about but me and really, that is what makes me a leader and grown as one. Not only have I grown as a leader where everyone can look up to while participating in Youth Lead KC (formerly 20/20 Leadership program) but it has helped me how I can use it with what I have learned in the future.
I can use it in many different ways. I can use it during my planning period off class. I can use it in my free time. I can use it when I get a chance, really anytime that would be good. A good time would be if I ever give a presentation, I can use that in my presentation where I can lead my group if they ever get stuck. Working at a job and helping out a new worker because they might not know what to do and where things are. Those are a few examples of where I can use what I learned from this program. Being able to really use it outside of a program is what I really wanna cherish and do, plus it has helped me so I will make a use out of it.
After all, I would like to leave a legacy. Something can be remembered because it is a good thing. “Leaving a legacy” means to me means leaving something behind a piece of you in any way. Whether it is a small quote, feeling, object, or even a word, that is still you. I would always be free to leave a legacy about me and if I could, it would be, “being a leader means you” I would want to leave a quote legacy so that people know that it doesn’t hurt being a leader and how you want to be one and applying it to anywhere. When being one, you can use it anywhere, not just to me but to others too.
After all, learning from my experience and what I know is what I want people to know me as.
