One of the most important needs within my community is access to reliable, skilled workers who keep homes, schools, and businesses safe and functioning. Many people depend on electricity every day, yet not everyone has access to affordable, trustworthy electrical services. I have seen how a lack of skilled trades professionals can cause delays, safety risks, and added stress for families and small businesses. This need has influenced my decision to pursue a career as an electrician and to use my skills to give back to the community that helped shape me.

Growing up, I learned the value of hands-on work and problem-solving. I enjoy building, creating, and fixing things, and I take pride in seeing tangible results from my effort. Over time, I realized that working in the skilled trades would allow me to turn these interests into a meaningful career. Becoming an electrician is not just about having a job for me, it is about providing a service that people depend on daily. Electricity powers homes, supports businesses, and keeps communities running safely, and I want to be part of that responsibility.

After high school, I plan to attend a trade school in Kansas City to receive formal training as an electrician. Trade school will give me the technical knowledge, certifications, and hands-on experience needed to work safely and effectively in the field. I am especially interested in learning about electrical systems, safety regulations, and problem-solving techniques that can be applied in real world situations. This education will prepare me for a stable career while allowing me to develop a strong work ethic and professional discipline.

My future education will help me impact the needs within my community by allowing me to serve others in a practical and dependable way. Skilled trades workers play a crucial role in maintaining safe living environments, especially for families who may not have the resources to handle electrical issues on their own. As an electrician, I hope to provide honest, quality work that people can trust. I want to help prevent safety hazards, improve living conditions, and support local businesses by ensuring their electrical systems function properly.

Beyond the technical side of the work, I also hope to be a positive role model for younger students who may not realize that trade careers are valuable and respected paths. There is sometimes pressure to believe that success only comes from traditional four-year colleges, but skilled trades offer meaningful opportunities that are just as important. By pursuing a trade and taking pride in my work, I hope to encourage others to consider careers that fit their strengths and interests. Leadership, to me, means showing others that there are multiple paths to success.

I also want to stay connected to leadership and mentorship programs that support youth across different ages and stages of life. Seeing siblings and students in different grades participate in leadership programs has shown me how growth and opportunity can continue across generations. I hope to contribute to that cycle by mentoring others, sharing my journey through trade school, and encouraging younger students to pursue careers they are passionate about.

The Gene Denton Memorial Scholarship would help support my education and allow me to focus on gaining the skills necessary to serve my community. With this support, I can continue working toward a career that values hard work, responsibility, and service. My goal is to use my training not only to build a successful future for myself, but also to give back by keeping my community safe, supported, and powered for generations to come.
